Janisha Fonville was shot and killed on Bellafonte Drive by Officer Anthony Holzhauer, who's been a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer since 2010, police said.
The shooting happened after officers responded to a domestic call around 9 p.m., according to police. The caller told officers that she and another woman were having an argument, according to a CMPD news release. "Officers went inside the apartment to speak with the female who was armed with a knife," according to the release. "After being ordered several times to drop the knife, the female refused their commands and lunged at the officers."
Holzhauer fired his service pistol, striking Fonville, police said. Fonville was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center. No one else was injured.
